Welcome to The Global Survival-Ark Email List

The Ark mailing list is a moderated email list for people who want to help each other in building global community.

Survival-Ark List Guidelines

1. Address posts to Survival-Ark@lyghtforce.com. Do not include other addresses or cc's. Reason: replies to "all" can result in inappropriate posts to the list or bounces from non-subscribers.

2. If material is available on a Web site, provide the URL rather than post it, explain why it's relevant and important to the list, and summarize important points if appropriate. Give enough information to explain why it is a good site and its topic instead of saying "it's a good site." Exception: short extracts and current news items, where posts may be more convenient for readers and some news items may expire from Web sites. In both cases, include the URL at the top.

3. Please post PRIVATE comments only to the recipient.

4. When forwarding: to reduce clutter, snip cc: lists and all other header/footer junk. Forwarded headers should include only "From," "Subject," and "Date" fields (plus the name of the list name if forwarded from a list). Forwards of personal email must be by permission only and state that fact.

5. Do not include quoted material in posts except for a short line or two to provide context. For example:

Name <ABC@xyz.com> said:
>In quoting from a message, use standard Net quoting conventions:
>precede all lines of the quoted material with right arrows, as in this
>example.

6. Do not post messages with "rich text" (formatted material, with special fonts, bolds, etc.), which causes problems with some email software. This applies mainly when you're using a browser to send email. Set your browser options for plain text. If you don't know how, don't use a browser when posting to the list.

Do not send any MIME coded messages. It only translates to MANY K's worth of gibberish and driving some of us around the bend!

Do not post messages that must be read while still on line. Some people download the messages and then read them before answering. If you post a message with a URL to go to for the information, it will put you back online again before it will load the message. This can cause a problem for some people.

7. In the subject line, please use a pertinent topic. Many of us file according to topic and look for posted information by subject. It does not help if someone uses a non-explanatory subject like "Help" or "What Do You Think" or "I Agree". Be specific.

8. Flaming and nastygrams are not allowed and will be weeded out. If it persists, you'll be removed. Period. Debate and opposing positions are welcomed, but only in anon-accusatory, non-combative manner. Everyone's input is needed and valuable. Flaming and nastygrams will not be tollerated even when sent directly to other subscribers.

9. In order to prevent a lot of bounced email, if you are going on vacation and generally receive a lot of email, please unsubscribe till you return. Please resubscribe upon return.

10. PLEASE subscribe or unsubscribe on-line. You can do so easily at: http://lyghtforce.com/survival-ark  If for some reason that site is down, follow this procedure:

Get Request

To get or download a file listed in the Ark directory, you must send an email message to Listserver@lyghtforce.com. To get a file, send the following message in the body of the email.

Get Survival-Ark <filename> <your_email_address>

If wildcards are used in the file name, any file that matches the specification will be returned. If the file has a hidden attribute, it may still be requested even though it will not be displayed with the Directory command. Wildcards are characters that are used as a substitute for a single character or group of characters. The wildcard substitution for a single character is a question mark (?). The wildcard substitution for a group of characters is an asterisk (*).

File names with spaces are allowed but you must enclose the filename in double quotes (") if spaces are used.

The list processor will analyze the file before sending it and if the file is a binary file the list processor will send it as an attachment. Otherwise the file is treated as a text file.

Put Request

To put or upload a file to be listed in the Ark directory, you must send an email message to Listserver@lyghtforce.com.

This command allows an Survival-Ark list member to send a file to be stored in the list's file directory.

Text files should be included within the email and binary files should be sent as attachments to the email message.

To put a file send the following message in the body of an email:

PUT Survival-Ark [<filename>]

If you have any problem using these list processor commands send an email message specifying the problem you are having to danyork@lyghtforce.com
